UNC/Duke Article Discussion!

October 21, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Please join us to discuss two recent primary research articles investigating the barriers women continue to face in academic research, what may be contributing to this trend, and ways we can all do our part to can change the outcome.

The articles to be discussed are:

Factors that affect the physical science career interest of female students: Testing five common hypotheses (2013)

Elite male faculty in the life sciences employ fewer women (2014)

A mass media article commenting on the findings of the second article:

Women in science: A new study on how male professors discriminate against women in scientific labs (2014)

This is a joint event between the UNC and Duke AMPWIS groups, and Dr. Susan Henning has kindly offered to host. As her driveway can only hold so many cars, please make an effort to car pool.

The main dish will be provided, but sides and drinks are pot luck. Please sign up HERE and indicate what side you will bring so as to avoid duplicates.

We hope you all can join us for this exciting conversation!!
